Specializing In AKC Miniature Longhaired Dachshunds

           Updated March 1, 2008

At Morgan’s Dachshunds, we breed for quality, temperament, and conformation. My four-legged kids are raised in-house under foot with my three two legged kids. My goal is to consistently breed healthy dogs with show potential. I breed longhairs exclusively. My colors consist of red, black and tan, cream, chocolate, and Isabella. My puppies come with a two-year guarantee to be healthy. My guarantee can be found on my web site under policies. I have shipped to all corners of the US and parts of Canada. All come with the shots appropriate for their age and are wormed. I am glad to send out photos of my puppies, moms and dads. I do not sell to pet stores!  If you are interested in a new companion, you are always welcome to come by and see my available puppies. I have references and am glad to give them at any time.

Questions to ask of a breeder:
1. How long have you had the breed? How long have you been breeding? Why did you choose dachshunds?

2. Do you show? (Not necessary if you're looking for a pet- but if the breeder is not showing, what $ are they investing in their dogs... are they there solely to have pups & make $? Also- show breeders TEND to be more aware of dachshund issues because at shows a lot of information is exchanged & there's more of an opportunity to learn. Show people are generally more aware of what a dachshund should be structurally & genetically- lineage, etc. This tends to keep you away and hopefully limit some defects that can arise. Your breeder should know the breed inside & out- and be honest with you when questions arise.)

3. If not showing- what is the goal for their kennel/dogs? Long term... what's the plan, where do you want to be? Are you involved with any clubs? (a good breeder will be showing- or at the very least involved with a kennel club, etc... and will have focus for their dogs/kennel- and more than likely the answer from a good breeder will not be financial.

(To clarify the financial aspect... when you are TRULY involved with your dogs the $ you make can be less than the $ that goes out. If you get lucky you break even between food, bedding, shots, puppy care, a new dog now and then, and show costs- 1 weekend showing 1 dog is usually $75. My daughter and I show 2 to 3 dogs per weekend that we show... and try to show at least 1x per month.)
